Network Bandwidth Allocation and Admission Control for a Continuous Media File Server
نویسندگان
چکیده
Resource reservation is required to guarantee delivery of continuous media data from a server across a network for continuous playback by a client. This paper addresses the characterization of the network bandwidth requirements of Variable Bit Rate data streams and the corresponding admission control mechanism at the server. We show that a characterization which sends data early, making intelligent use of client buuer space, reduces the amount of network bandwidth reserved per stream without creating any start-up latency. The results of performance experiments in a Continuous Media File Server nd that operation with requests arriving over time can deliver up to 90% of the network bandwidth. The experiments also show that a system designer can conngure a server so that the network and disk bandwidth can scale together.

Performance evaluation for VBR Continuous Media File Server admission control
A file server for continuous media must provide resource guarantees and only admit requests that do not violate the resource availability. This paper addresses the admission performance of a server that explicitly considers the variable bit rate nature of the continuous media streams. A prototype version of the server has been implemented and evaluated in several heterogeneous environments. The...
متن کاملAdaptive call admission control and resource allocation in multi server wireless/cellular network
The ever increasing demand of the subscribers has put pressure on the capacity of wireless networks around the world. To utilize the scare resources, in the present paper we propose an optimal allocation scheme for an integrated wireless/cellular model with handoff priority and handoff guarantee services. The suggested algorithm optimally allocates the resources in each cell and dynamically adj...
متن کاملAdmission Control and QoS for Continuous Media Displays in MANETs
We consider continuous media delivery over a mobile ad-hoc network of vehicles equipped with car-to-car peer-topeer (C2P2) devices. While the provision of high-bandwidth continuous media content with tight QoS requirements is challenging even in static networks, it is considerably more challenging when the network topology is dynamic due to node mobility. In this paper, we develop a unified cli...
متن کاملMediaGuard: a model-based framework for building streaming media services
A number of technology and workload trends motivate us to consider the appropriate resource allocation mechanisms and policies for streaming media services in shared cluster environments. We present MediaGuard – a model-based infrastructure for building streaming media services – that can efficiently determine the fraction of server resources required to support a particular client request over...
متن کاملJoint Allocation of Computational and Communication Resources to Improve Energy Efficiency in Cellular Networks
Mobile cloud computing (MCC) is a new technology that has been developed to overcome the restrictions of smart mobile devices (e.g. battery, processing power, storage capacity, etc.) to send a part of the program (with complex computing) to the cloud server (CS). In this paper, we study a multi-cell with multi-input and multi-output (MIMO) system in which the cell-interior users request service...
